Empirical, which emerged from the forcing house of Tomorrow’s Warriors, has been one of the sensations of the past decade. Breathing fresh life into jazz by seamlessly incorporating contemporary urban music into the bop heritage, they have won acclaim and awards on both sides of the Atlantic.
For this gig they further demonstrate their place in the tradition by paying tribute to Eric Dolphy, considered a dangerous radical in his day but now recognised as one of the inheritors of Charlie Parker.
