Cycling

Cycling in the countryside is not only a good way to exercise without polluting the environment, but also a great way to explore the outdoors.

Gateshead's countryside offers a wide range of safe cycling opportunities to suit all abilities.

However, there are certain areas where you can and cannot take bicycles and special precautions that should be taken in order to be a safe and responsible cyclist. When cycling in the coutryside, always remember:

  • Keep to legal cycling routes;
  • Give way to pedestrians and horses;
  • Use a bell to warn others of your approach;
  • Keep your speed down on bridleways and multi-user routes.
