Tyneside Cinema

We've Moved House

We can now announce the amazing news that we will begin our project to restore and make the Tyneside an even better home for great films in the north east.

We're moving to Gateshead for a short while

Work begins to transform our Pilgrim Street site on Friday 24th November, so we’re packing up our projectors and shifting our seats to the wonderful confines of Gateshead’s beautifully historic Old Town Hall.

The Coffee Rooms is coming too

As well as screening all the newest, greatest films, full time at the Old Town Hall, we’re also taking the Tyneside Coffee Rooms with us too, so everything you love about your cinema-going at the Tyneside will be all present and correct when you come to our new home.

Access for everyone

For the first time ever, from Friday 24th November we’ll be showing films in an environment fully accessible for anyone with trouble using stairs (at last), and in one of the grandest auditoriums you’ll ever set foot in.

How to book tickets

You can still book tickets by calling us on exactly the same Box Office telephone number: (0191) 232 8289.
If you have any questions

If you have any questions, worries, queries, hopes or requests about our exciting temporary move to the Old Town Hall, please contact us at whatson@tynecine.org|, or call the Box Office on (0191) 232 8289.

How to get to there

The Old Town Hall, Gateshead is just a stone’s throw from Pilgrim Street. Set just steps away from Gateshead travel interchange, its served by busy bus routes and is within easy reach by Metro.

Metro: Take the Metro from Monument Station to Gateshead Station, then leave the station, head towards the River Tyne down West Street and the Old Town Hall is on your right hand side.

Bus: Many services operate from Pilgrim Street. You can get regular services 21, 24, 27, 97 (all Northern buses) from the stop outside Maplins, just across the road from our Pilgrim Street site. All services stop right outside the front door of the Old Town Hall (fare 70p). Yellow Quaylink buses Q1 pick up outside the Theare Royal and go to Gateshead travel interchange (fare 65p).

Car: FREE Parking is available at Old Town Hall, and nearby Swinburne Street Car Park, Monday to Saturday from 5.30pm. Weekday and Saturday daytimes are chargeable from 90p for two hours, and Sunday day permits are available for just £1.

On Foot: If you’re up for it, it’s just a 15 minute walk over the Tyne Bridge to the Old Town Hall. Head over the bridge, under the railway arches and the Old Town Hall is directly ahead of you. The Entrance to the Cinema is on West Street.
