Following a restoration project funded by Heritage Lottery, the exterior of the Old Town Hall has been transformed to its former glory and will start its new future as a cultural hub for performance and the arts in Gateshead this autumn.

To mark this new start, Gateshead Council has produced an Old Town Hall Memories Gallery  |of memorable pictures and public memories of the hundred and thirty nine years since it was built.

Gateshead Old Town Hall is now open for business! The facilities of this beautiful and historic building have been upgraded and in the Main Hall we have a fully functioning venue with an inspiring multi-purpose space.

As well as providing a base for a busy and varied programme of Arts events, the Main Hall is also available for hire. It is ideal for anyone who would like to put on a concert or event and can accommodate conferences, presentations, workshops and large meetings. It is also a perfect setting for those special occasions or celebrations, such as retirement, leaving or birthday parties, ceilidhs and wedding receptions.

Gateshead Old Town Hall is just a few minutes walk from Gateshead Interchange and Metro Station, making it convenient to get to. With a capacity of approx. 300 theatre style seating and approx. 250 cabaret style, it is a well-equipped space with adaptable theatre lighting, pa, induction loop system, fixed stage and grand piano.

Next to the Main Hall, Café Concept has a licensed bar which provides seating for approx. 50 and can be hired in conjunction with the Main Hall.

Arrangements can also be made to cater for events. A discount of 20% is available to all Gateshead Council services, Gateshead based voluntary groups and Gateshead based not-for-profit organisations.
