The Offices

The original office staff came from Rank's Clarence Mill in Hull. Fred Allinson was silo admistrator and later bacame Deputy Head of the wheat section.

Other sections included:

  • statistics;
  • forwarding;
  • book-keeping.

Wages for office staff were low - the staring wage was £3.15s. There was no automatic pay rise but there was a 10 shilling rise for not joining a union.

Plans for a specialised office union were continually rejected by the management. In later years all office staff were transferred to a regional office in Yorkshire.
