The original office staff came from Rank's Clarence Mill in Hull. Fred Allinson was silo administrator and later became Deputy Head of the wheat section.

Wages for office staff were low - the staring wage was £3.15s. There was no automatic pay rise but there was a 10 shilling rise for not joining a union.
Plans for a specialised office union were continually rejected by the management. In later years all office staff were transferred to a regional office in Yorkshire.
