Chrysalis (Perspex and stainless steel) by Sam Brewster

Born in Adelaide, South Australia 1972
Lives and works in Hobart, Tasmania

Sam has created a sculpture intended to allude to the concepts of safe passage, transition, coupled with the emergence of wonder and beauty.

'While contemplating these concepts, there have been two items at the forefront of my mind that have influenced the form of this sculpture, one natural, the other man made. These are a chrysalis and a land based nautical beacon. These objects seem pertinent when thinking about my own culture, together with my family's immigration from Ireland to Australia in the 1950’s, a subject that has particular significance to me and my inspiration for this work since my recent first visit to Ireland'.
