Window - Colin Rose

Colin Rose's Window is a large-scale stainless steel sculpture (6 x 3 metres) near to the Whickham House pub on Bensham Bank, opposite Bensham Grove Community Centre.

Houses previously stood on this site, and following clearance it was surrounded by advertising hoardings and used as a car park.

The site was transformed in 1986 and landscaped as a small park with a major sculptural feature.

The sculpture interacts with the location, supplying it with a suitably scaled and highly unusual 'window'. The open structure frames both the built environment and organic forms. The sculpture also explores the idea of windows as thresholds between interior and exterior spaces.
