The Ribbon Railings form a colourful boundary along Askew Road, a major route into Gateshead Town Centre. The work is the result of collaboration between Gateshead Council’s landscape architects and Alan Dawson Associates. The artwork was inspired by ribbons floating in the wind, a continuation of the theme used in the nearby Windmill Hills Town Park. Visually the ribbon flows through the planting, whilst physically forming a barrier along the top of the wall. The railings are made from galvanised steel and rise to a height of 1.4 metres.
