Family Sculpture Day

Sculpture Day
Family Sculpture Day

This annual event is a huge fun packed day set in The Grove at Saltwell Park.

Hundreds come along and have a good time making their own wooden sculpture. Each year has a different theme to launch peoples imaginations:

  • 2005 - Noah's Ark;
  • 2004 - Mythical Creatures;
  • 2003 - Dinosaur.

Everything needed to create bugs, birds, fish and mammales is provided:

  • tonnes of wood;
  • tools (although it is a good idea to bring your own hammer);
  • all the nails you'll need;
  • professional artists.

The event also features the exciting art of Raku Pottery. Using this ancient Japanese technique, ceramic tiles are painted with special glazes, fired in the kiln ready to be taken home as a unique souvenier of the day.
