At the Council we help and advise thousands of people every year, giving Gateshead residents the best possible chance of finding work within the borough. Here is just one of our success stories:
We recently helped 33 people access new job opportunities with one of the largest employers in the borough. When the new NHS surgery centre was being built on the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital site in Gateshead, managers turned to us for assistance.
In partnership with JobCentre Plus, Economic Development held an information event at the NewcastleGateshead Hilton Hotel, which was publicised throughout the borough. 396 people attended the day and were to talk to the employer and could be booked onto pre-employment training.
With our assistance the NHS and Gateshead College developed a 5 week customised training programme including customer service, infection control, first aid at work etc. All clients who took part in the training were offered a guaranteed interview on completion.
33 people were successful for positions in the surgery centre and within the Queen Elizabeth Hospital itself gaining positions as health care assistants, housekeepers, domestics, catering assistants and administrators.
NHS managers have said how delighted they were by the standard of staff they were able to recruit and hope to take this training pilot forward to use throughout Tyne and Wear NHS partnerships.
