Private Rented Accreditation Scheme
What is the Accreditation Scheme?
The Accrediatation Scheme is an initiative developed by Gateshead Council in partnership with the Gateshead Private Landlords Association to recognise and reward responsible landlords and good quality accommodation.
The Accreditation Scheme covers all types of privately-rented accommodation from flats, through to large single houses. The standards are based on existing legislation but incorporate additional facilities considered to meet the modern day decent standard.

What are the Standards for Accreditation?
Physical Property Standards
There are two levels of standard for accredited properties - 'Accredited' and 'Commended'

Property Management Standards

Landlords who participate in the scheme are required to sign up to the Gateshead Private Landlords Association's Constitution and Code of Practice relating to recognised good management practices.

Alternatively, the landlord must demonstrate that he/she has suitable management practices already in place to ensure effective management of their properties
How long will accreditation last for?
The accreditation status lasts for 3 years. At the end of this period, the property will be re-inspected before accredited status is renewed.
Safety and buildings insurance certificates will be required annually for each property, and spot check inspections of properties may be carried out within the 3-year accreditation period.
