Housing Options

Your Housing Options: Alternative ways to find a home

It isn’t always easy finding somewhere to live and people often think that applying for a council house or to a housing association for property is the only option available to them.

Unfortunately, there are not enough council and housing association| homes available to everyone that wants or needs one.  We understand that many people have a real need for somewhere to live and therefore, provide a range of different solutions to help people find a home.

We can help with finding private rented|  accommodation; provide advice regarding shared ownership| schemes; homebuy and sheltered or supported housing|.

The Council also work with private landlords in the Borough and have developed the Private Landlord Accreditation Scheme| We also provide information for people who may be vulnerable and need help to successfully stay in their homes.  These people may be first time tenants or existing tenants struggling to cope with keeping their tenancy.   Please click on this link to gain further information regarding housing support|.

Alternatively, your home may no longer be suitable for you due to a medical problem or disability.  Once registered onto the council’s housing register you can apply for band one medical priority| to help you move into a suitable property.
