The junior Neighbourhood Warden programme is aimed at primary school pupils within Year 5 and is designed to foster greater respect and pride in the local area and encourage them to become aware of environmental issues. Working with many external partner agencies including Northumbria Police. We can harness this position to provide young people with an insight into their work and link it to longer-term action around their education and attitudes toward the street environment. The specific aims of the scheme are to:
Junior Neighbourhood Warden Scheme
-
Foster a sense of local responsibility.
-
Increase awareness of the quality of the local environment and the impact of anti social behaviour.
-
Help develop good citizenship skills through working to make the local environment a cleaner and safer place to live.
-
Promote the work of the Council and its Local Environmental Services Group, particularly the Neighbourhood Warden Service.
Activities have ranged from informative visits to the Neighbourhood Warden Service such as CCTV and Parks Patrol to environmental walkabouts and visits to the local police station or fire station. The underlying effort has been to help children and young people understand the role of these services and the consequences of crime, anti social behaviour and safety in the home and community.
