Older Persons Aspirations in Gateshead

Results from a study on Older Persons Aspirations in Gateshead has been undertaken by Outside UK.  This study includes the need for older people to achieve and sustain a good quality of life in good standard, accessible and appropriate housing, specifically considering the needs and aspirations of BME elders living with our communities

The study comprised a large sample survey of residents with particular emphasis upon hard to reach groups together with a review of existing information drawn from a variety of sources.

The research will support the Council's strategic planning and in particular the delivery of the Housing Strategy and the Housing Strategy for Older People.   The results will play a key role in informing the Unitary Development Plan, the Community Strategy, the Private Sector Housing Renewal Policy and the Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy.

The findings from the study have been set in the context of national and regional data and take into account research work being done on older persons' housing elsewhere.

Two reports have been produced.  The main report which covers all tenures in Gateshead and a separate report with details relating to the Council's own stock. Both reports are available on this website on the right of this page.
