Gateshead 2006 Housing Needs and Social Care Survey
The Government expects all local authorities to carry out a housing needs assessment of their Borough at least every five years. To ensure that we have information available to enable us to influence and balance the local housing market, a Housing Need and Adult Social Care Assessment has been carried out by David Cumberland Housing Regeneration Limited.
The results provide robust and up to date information which will inform future housing strategic documents and planning policies including supporting housing market renewal in Gateshead.
For the first time we incorporated a study of Adult Social Care Needs into the research with an emphasis upon the needs of BME communities . This has provided the Council with a clearer picture of our community and the current and future needs relating to current or future need for adaptations, general assistance in the home, social needs and the need for more appropriate accommodation to address physical needs.
This information will inform the Supporting People programme in Gateshead, in particular identifying the scale and type of additional support requirements. Hidden homelessness in Gateshead has also been considered within this research.
