You may be entitled to financial assistance to carry out energy efficiency improvements to your home from one of the following sources:
Gateshead Warmzone
Gateshead Warm Zone is an independent partnership principally comprising Gateshead Council, Gateshead Housing Company, ScottishPower, National Grid Transco and Warm Zones Limited. It has been set up to tackle fuel poverty and improve energy efficiency in homes across the Borough of Gateshead by:

a) substantially reducing fuel poverty in the Borough as far as is practicable; and
-
b) improving domestic energy efficiency through free or discounted measures and advice to all households.
Warmzone provide a range of energy efficiency measures including, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, installing hot water tank jackets and providing advice and guidance to residents of the borough. In addition they carry out benefit health checks and provide claim support to vulnerable residents to address fuel poverty.
Some measures are free an applicant is in receipt of certain means tested benefits. Warmzone also offer an able to pay scheme.

Warm Front
Warm Front is a government-funded scheme which provides grants to make your home warmer, healthier and more energy efficient.
Warm Front grants are for people who own their own home or rent it from a private landlord, and are on certain benefits. They may be eligible for a grant of up to £3,500 (or £6,000 if oil central heating is involved) under the Warm Front Scheme.
If the property has previously received Warm Front improvements, the grant now available will be the balance of £3,500 (or £6,000 if oil central heating is involved) less the value of all works previously completed.
Improvements that the Warm Front Grant can provide may include;
Applicants meeting the following criteria may be eligible for a Warm Front Grant:

Householders aged 60 or over in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

Householders with a child under 16, or pregnant women with maternity certificate MAT-B1, in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

Working Tax Credit (with an income of less than £15,460, which must include a disability element)

Disability Living Allowance

Child Tax Credit (with an income of less than £15,460)

Housing Benefit (which must include a disability premium)

Council Tax Benefit (which must include a disability premium)
-
War Disablement Pension (which must include a mobility supplement or Constant Attendance Allowance)

Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (which must include Constant Attendance Allowance)

Attendance Allowance Income related Employment and Support Allowance

The term 'Householder' includes the applicant's spouse, or partner, if they are living with the applicant

Private Sector Housing Financial Assistance
As part of its Private Sector Housing Financial Assistance Policy Gateshead Council offers financial assistance to enable homeowners to improve their homes to a ‘Decent Standard’ where they are unable to afford to carry out essential works themselves. The Council is committed to making sure that wherever possible the energy efficiency of homes is improved through better insulation, heating systems, and general repair. All such improvements are designed to improve the thermal comfort of the home and to contribute to the governments Decent Home Standard.

Energy Saving Trust
The Energy Saving Trust is a non-profit organisation, funded both by government and the private sector. They are one of the UK's leading organisations set up to address the damaging effects of climate change and they have offices in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.
