Bulky household waste collection is a chargeable service when you have rubbish that is too big for your bin.

Collections are subject to a minimum charge of £16 and the total price will depend on the volume and type of items to be collected. Items are categorised based on size, weight and material.

You will be given a collection date once you request a collection. Please note that collection dates can vary between 2 and 10 working days. Please take this into consideration when requesting a collection.
Collections take place between the hours of 7.30am and 3.30pm. On your collection date all items must be placed outside as close to the edge of your property as possible by 7.30am. You must ensure that the items are easily accessible and are not obstructed by or containing items you have not asked us to collect. When you arrange your collection you must provide us with a list of the items you wish to be collected.
If any of these conditions are not met, another chargeable collection will apply. Any changes or alterations must be made at least 2 working days before the collection. Refunds will not be given after this time.
If your items can not be collected due to circumstances beyond our control we will contact you to re-arrange your collection.
Cancelling a bulky household waste collection
As long as you give us at least 2 working days notice before the arranged collection date, a full refund will be offered.
Will you collect items that are inside of my house or flat?
If you require items to be removed from inside your property we will arrange for a disclaimer to be posted or emailed to you. Once the disclaimer has been completed and returned, arrangements can be made for the collection of the items. To arrange a collection from inside a property, for example a house or garage, please contact Customer Services on 0191 433 7000.
What happens if we need to send a supervisor to your premises?
Customer Services is able to provide additional charging information over the telephone. However in some instances, for example a garage clearance or the removal of an exceptionally large or heavy item, we may be unable to make an assessment over the telephone. We will then make arrangements for a supervisor to visit your property and give a quotation for the removal of the item(s). Once the quotation has been provided, you can then make the payment and removal arrangements will be made.
Please note that there will be a minimum call-out charge of £30 for the visit of the supervisor. This charge will be deducted from the overall cost of the removal of the items, should you choose to proceed with the quotation. Alternative collection and disposal options
Furniture, soft furnishings and small electrical applicances can be donated to Foundations Furniture, Gateshead. Please note that donated items must be clean, safe to use and in a reasonable condition.
The council has two Waste and Recycling Centres where you can take a variety of household waste and recycling items. These facilities are open seven days a week.
