Avian Influenza (Bird Flu)

 

We urge residents to remain calm but vigilant following the discovery of H5N1 Avian Influenza in poultry at Upper Holton, Suffolk.

Advice to bird keepers

Bird keepers should familiarise themselves with the advice from DEFRA  and start to take sensible precautions in case the virus spreads to this part of the country.

Reporting dead birds - DEFRA

DEFRA request that, if you find dead wild gulls, waders, ducks, geese or swans you contact the DEFRA Helpline (08459 33 55 77) and choose the Avian Influenza option which will be open from 8:30am - 8pm, 7 days a week.

They also ask that if you find die offs involving 10 or more dead birds of the same species or from different species in the same place you contact the DEFRA Helpline (08459 33 55 77) and choose the Avian Influenza option which will be open from 8:30am - 8pm, 7 days a week.
