Financial Assistance for Students
Financial assistance is available for students in Sixth Forms, Further Education and Higher Education.
Education Maintenance Allowance
Education Maintenance Allowance is available to students under 19 years attending full time courses in School Sixth forms and Further Education Colleges. Such students may qualify for payments of up to £30 per week together with bonuses of £100 subject to progress. The help is subject to parental income and students will qualify for some financial assistance if parental income is below £30,000 per year. This scheme is now administered through a national assessment and payment body so please visit the national EMA website www.ema.dfes.gov.uk| for further information about the scheme and the application process.
Higher Education Student Support
Higher Education Student Support is available for students on full time degree courses, HND s, Full-time HNC s, Diploma of Higher Education Courses and Teacher Training Courses. Students on these courses may qualify for

Tuition Fee Loans;

Maintenance Loans;
-
Maintenance Grants.
Some additional help is also available for students with disabilities.
For further information about Higher Education Student Support, or to download a copy of the application form, please visit the DfES website| at. Copies of the application form can also be requested in person, by phone or by post from the Student Support Team. Please note that it is not possible to send the application form electronically to the Council. In all circumstances the completed form, with the required enclosures, must be posted or handed in to the Student Support Team.
