Further education

 

Further education (often abbreviated FE ) is post-secondary, post-compulsory education (in addition to that received at secondary school). It may be at the same level, at a higher level, or at a lower level than secondary education, anything from basic training to Higher National and Foundation Degree.

Gateshead College is a further education college, and has invested over £60million in four state-of-the-art campuses across Gateshead:

  • Baltic Campus on Gateshead Quays boasts four floors of performance and music studios, workshops, a two-tier library, an industry standard salon and spa, a 200-seat theatre, as well as student restaurant Enfields and a bistro.
  • The Academy for Sport at Gateshead International Stadium is number one for sport education in the region complete with an indoor athletics hall, sports science and medicine facilities and a performance lab.
  • The Skills Academy for Automotive, Engineering, Manufacturing and Logistics is the preferred trainer for Nissan apprentices and is purpose built with spray booths, rolling road, diagnostic equipment and driving simulators
  • The Skills Academy for Construction is a unique facility complete with real life work areas including plumbing, plastering, joinery and brickwork.

The Gateshead College Foundation is a new charity to help students who need financial support to study at the college. Support may be in the form of grants, scholarships, loans, equipment, gifts, bursaries and prizes.

The Collective is a partnership of work-based learning providers in Gateshead, the collective is an exciting partnership made up of eight leading work-based learning providers in Gateshead. Formed in 2003, this unique collaboration is the first of its kind in the region. By joining forces we believe we will be able to offer an even higher quality service to both individuals and employers.

The eight providers are:
Access Training, ITEC North East, NEETA Ltd, Rathbone UK, General Physics, TDR Ltd, Gateshead College and Van Hee.
