How can my children receive school meals?
Children attending local education authority schools are entitled to free school meals if:

You are on Income Support / Job Seekers Allowance (Income Based JSA - IB) / Guarantee Pension Credit; or
-
You are in receipt of Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) and your income is less than £13,910.00 per year
The following benefits do not entitle you to free school meals:

Contribution-based Jobseekers Allowance

Working Tax Credit

Foster Allowance
-
Council Tax Benefits
-
Incapacity Benefit

Parents can be sure that pupils who receive a free school meal are not singled out in any way.
Important – if you stop receiving Income Support or JSA (IB); you stop being responsible for the child/children concerned; or your Tax Credit entitlement changes, you MUST inform the Council Benefit Section immediately.
