Exclusions from School

Your child's school should have a written policy setting out the standards of behaviour it expects.  The policy should outline what the school will do if your child's behaviour falls below these standards.

Only the Head Teacher of your child's school can exclude a pupil.

The decision to exclude a pupil should be taken only:

  • in response to serious breaches of the school’s behaviour policy; and
  • if allowing the child to remain in school would seriously harm the education or welfare of the child or others in school.

Exclusions can be permanent or for a fixed period (up to 45 school days in a year) or Lunchtime (equal to one half school day).
