We are going on holiday in term time and the school are not happy, why is this?
The government and schools realise that is more expensive to go on holiday during the school holiday time than at other times. However, it is important that parents/carers consider the implications of taking their child out of school during term time.
The law states that parents/carers do not have a right to take their child out of school for holidays during term-time, but the Head Teacher can authorise up to ten days holiday in an academic year, depending on the circumstances
Parents/carers should try and avoid the following times to take their child out of school:
-
Near or during SATs (in years 2, 6 and 9);
-
Near or during GCSE , A level exams (including mocks);
-
At the start of a new school year.
Important dates will either be in your child’s school planner or available from the school office.
If a parent/carer takes their child on holiday and school do not authorise the absence, or the child is away for more than 10 days in a school year a £50 Fixed Penalty Notice may be issued.
