Unlike other teachers, the REALAC teacher does not work in a school, the job is to help any young person who may be experiencing difficulties in any school. As part of the job the teacher will help;

  • All year 11s who are taking GCSE s by providing revision guides, advice and support;
  • All year 9s who are taking SATs by providing revision guides and support;
  • Any young person who is permanently excluded from school by doing home tuition for the first 15 days of exclusion;
  • Work with other professionals and the REALAC Team to provide support in school if needed;
  • Young people to access alternative education packages that will help them succeed;
  • Work with schools to help teachers support Looked After Children and young people with their education;
  • Support teachers, social workers and foster carers to complete the young persons Personal Education Plan;
  • Attend reviews;
  • Advocate on behalf of a Looked After Child in the school arena.

The teacher also provides training to teachers, social workers and prospective adopters about education and the needs of Looked After Children.
