Adult Learning

Thousands of adults in Gateshead participate in learning programmes provided by the Council and our partners. Bush-craft, head massage, family-maths, canoeing, local history, waste management, Russian and silversmithery are just some of the opportunities we offer.

People get involved for all sorts of reasons. For some, it is to get new skills to help in finding a job or improve career prospects. Others are taking up a new hobby or developing something in which they have been interested for a long time. Sometimes, it is about getting out of the house and meeting new friends.

Anybody can start to learn again. It does not matter how well or not you did at school or whether you enjoyed education then. Nor is it ever too late to start learning. Lots of older people learn with us even though they might not have undertaken any formal education for decades. We have helped absolute beginners in their nineties!

We want to provide learning that challenges, delights, develops and enthuses. Everyone is welcome, especially if you think that education is not for you. Why not give it a try? There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain.
