Thousands of adults in Gateshead participate in learning programmes provided by Gateshead Council and our partners. People get involved for all sorts of reasons. For some, it is to learn new skills, to others are taking up a new hobby or developing something in which they have been interested for a long time. Sometimes, it is about getting out of the house and meeting new friends.

Anybody can start to learn again. It does not matter how well or not you did at school or whether you enjoyed education then. Nor is it ever too late to start learning. Lots of older people learn with us even though they have not undertaken any structured education for years. We have helped absolute beginners in their nineties!

We offer a wide variety of fantastic courses all delivered by experienced and enthusiastic staff. Some of the courses we have on offer are:

  • Art and design, ceramics, jewellery making, textiles and sewing
  • Languages including Spanish, British Sign Language, Italian, French, German and Russian
  • ICT including internet and email, new technology, Photoshop and family history
  • Holistic therapies, Weight Management, Pilates, Tai Chi, Beauty Therapy, Yoga, Natural History, Kickboxing, Circuit Training
  • Cookery, cake decorating and themed meal planning
  • Introduction to Teaching, Counselling, Bookkeeping, Working with Children and Young People

We provide learning that challenges, delights, develops and enthuses. Everyone is welcome. Why not give it a try? There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain.
