Adult Learning

Gateshead Council delivers Adult Education to meet the needs of Gateshead people. We create exciting learning that is local, fun, supportive and helps you gain the skills you need.

Courses

Learners join our courses and keep coming back for a whole range of reasons, we involve people in learning at any time in their lives, Learning for life, for pleasure, for work.

Download the courses available on the right-hand side.

Learning Communities

Gateshead Council is proud of its role is supporting learning locally in neighbourhoods, these centres support communities by supporting local people and helping them to:

  • get involved in a wide range of activities;
  • start a new group in area of interest;
  • find out what's going on in their neighbourhood;
  • make your community a better place to live.

Lots of people are already involved - and with training available many have found their passion has become their vocation.

Family Learning

Over 450 parents/carers will take part in some of the following programmes this year:

  • Family Literacy & Numeracy;
  • Family Learning Workshops;
  • Family Learning through ILT;
  • Share and Early Start programmes in designated schools throughout the borough.

The Community Centres also run Family Learning projects and programmes to engage family members and:

  • Increase parent's knowledge and awareness of how their child learns;
  • Increase their confidence in helping their child learn;
  • Enable parents to become more involved with their child's learning.

Family Learning has been recognized as an effective method of encouraging adults back into learning through their desire to help their child at home.

Get in touch with one of the Skills for Life Centres' for more help getting back on track with spelling, writing, maths, form filling and job applications.
