A proxy vote is where you appoint someone else to vote on your behalf for a definite or indefinite period, or for a particular election.
Applying for a Proxy Vote for a definite or indefinite period
To be able to vote by proxy for a definite or indefinite period you need to able to meet one of the acceptable reasons in law. These are

Blindness;

Other disability;

Occupation/employment/service/attendance on a course;

Registered as a service or overseas voter;

Journey necessary by sea or air to get from registered address to polling station.
All proxy applications need to be attested and the reason why the proxy is needed must be stated or indicated on the application form.
Applying for a Proxy Vote for a particular election
You do not need to have your application attested if you want to apply for a proxy vote for a particular election.

The applicant must state the circumstances why they cannot reasonably vote in person.
