Gateshead Council is warning motorists to avoid the Saltmeadows area of Gateshead next week-end because of a number of road closures.
A number of roads will be closed around the Gateshead Stadium and Saltmeadows area to enable a series of cycling events to take place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September as part of the UK Schools Games, which is being held at Gateshead International Stadium.

Parts of Neilson Road, Tyne Main Road, Saltmeadows Road, Hawks Road, Quarryfield Road), Albany Road, South Row and South Shore Road will be affected on the Saturday between 12.00 and 19.00, and from 8.00am and 14.00 on the Sunday.

The cycling events have been specifically programmed for when traffic in the area is expected to be light to reduce any impact the road closures may have on businesses in the area. Vehicular access will not be available during the closure periods without special arrangements being made, although footpaths will remain open.

Part of the Coast to Coast Cycle Route, from South Shore Road at a point 40m east of its junction with Albany Road , will also be temporarily closed during those times.

Gateshead Council apologies for any inconvenience these closures may cause and asks motorists and cyclists for their patience.
