Ofsted praises Gateshead school

Date: 03/09/2008

A Gateshead school has been praised by a Government watchdog for successfully living up to its motto, Learning, Achieving, Succeeding.
Thomas Hepburn Community Comprehensive School in Gateshead was hailed as having, ”a positive ethos in which students are nurtured throughout the years they spend there”.

Teachers, pupils and governors were delighted to learn the school had been rated as “Good” across all categories in a newly published report from the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED).

The school is described as providing a “safe environment in which students feel supported and well cared for”.

The report also said: “The highly effective headteacher is well supported by an
enthusiastic leadership team, a committed staff and a determined governing body.

Inspectors noted that, “Senior leaders have clear roles and responsibilities; middle leaders feel empowered and classroom leaders feel encouraged and supported.”

Councillor Catherine Donovan, Cabinet member for children and young people at Gateshead Council said: “I am delighted at the outcome of this latest inspection and feel the headteacher, staff, governors and pupils alike should be very proud of the achievement.”
