People from the centre make the mini-angels which will be used this summer by Gateshead school children.
A group of more than 70 miniature angels are set for an amazing adventure this summer as part of the Angel of the North's 10th anniversary celebrations.
The woolly angel dolls could be sent to all corners of the globe by kids from Gateshead schools during their summer holidays.

The idea is to get the little angels photographed in as many exciting locations as possible, with the most exciting or interesting picture winning a special prize.

The dolls will help North East youngsters spread the word about the region's most outstanding landmark - which marks it's 10th anniversary this year.

The children are being asked to take the dolls away with them on their holidays and photograph their adventures near or far. They will also be given themed diaries to record what they've been up to.

The knitted angel dolls are tiny replicas of the real thing, lovingly made by people from Gateshead Council's Marquis Way Centre which provides a day service for adults with learning and physical disabilities.

About 30 people from the centre have been making the angels and manager Wendy Scope said it has really caught their imagination:

"They've really enjoyed making the dolls and we've had loads of fun celebrating the Angel of the North's tenth anniversary. It's been a great experience for all the patients and staff.

"They've learned lots of new skills making them so I hope all the dolls go to good homes."
