The Jonas Brothers
Pupils at a Gateshead school got a massive musical surprise when international singing sensations Jonas Brothers came to class.

The heartthrobs, Kevin, Joe and Nick, popped into Ryton Comprehensive School to treat pupils to a musical master class as part of the Department for Children, Schools and Families’ campaign, Tune In – Year of Music. TheJonasBrothersPerformatRytonSchool

The exclusive session kick started ‘Back to School’, a series of musical sessions hosted by music icons from across the globe, aiming to inspire children and young people about the ways in which music can enrich their lives.

Over 200 pupils from the school learned top tips from the brothers – including from learning to play basic guitar melodies, song composition, to techniques for practising and improving.

There was also an opportunity for the young people to ask the stars questions.

Kevin Jonas said: “Music has been such an integral JonasBrothersteachchildrenhowtoplayguitarpart of our lives and our journey together.  We are really excited to be sharing our passion for the subject and hope to inspire kids to pick up an instrument if they have never done so before or to practice more if they already know how to play.”

Head teacher at Ryton Comprehensive School Steve Williamson said: “We are very proud to have the Jonas Brothers come to our school.

“Ryton Comprehensive is packed full of talented young people and runs a number of extra-curricular music activities to encourage an interest in music.

“I hope that the Jonas Brothers coming to the school will inspire more children to get involved in music and take up a musical instrument.”

Head of the Music Service at Gateshead Council John Treherne said: "Gateshead schools have an amazing range of visiting musicians who give concerts and workshops.

"During and the last two weeks we have TheJonasBrotherswithschoolchildrenfromGatesheadwelcomed Mary Wilson from the Supremes and this week four outstanding musicians from the Avison Ensemble are visiting 11 schools.

"We are delighted to extend this amazing range of musicians to the Jonas Brothers who were extremely popular with our young people."
