Informal consultations welcome views

Date: 04/11/09

Informal consultations for the review of primary schools in Whickham are now underway and Gateshead Council wants to hear your views!

Community members with an interest in the review of Marley Hill Primary, Washingwell Primary, Front Street and Sacred Heart Primary are invited to put forward their suggestions at a series of consultations.

The consultations are informal and an ideal opportunity to help shape the future of primary education in Whickham and contribute to options which could affect all schools.

Lack of demand for primary places in West Gateshead has been prompted by the falling birth rate resulting in some schools with a very pupil intake of below 30 a year.

Gateshead Council must address this by making the best use of resources and expects that two, possibly three, schools could close to create better quality facilities and a higher standard of education.

All views will be considered by representatives from Gateshead Council at the following consultations:

Washingwell Primary on November 11 at 6.30pm

Sacred Heart Primary November 17 at 6.30pm

Marley Hill Primary November 19 at 6.30pm

Whickham Comprehensive School November 23 at 3pm

Whickham Comprehensive School November 24 at 6pm

Front Street Primary November 26 at 6.30pm
