Grants and awards available for Gateshead groups

Date: 05/09/2008

Gateshead Council is offering local groups and organisations the opportunity to boost their service with the help of a grant.
The council wants to support voluntary and community sector groups and social enterprises based in Gateshead whose services and activities benefit local people.

One Organisation that has already benefited from the grants scheme this year is St Chads Community Project, which was given a grant of £11,250 towards promoting activities with vulnerable sections of the community. Blaydon Tennis Club also received a grant of £6,950 to assist with the cost of tennis development within the borough and with general running costs.

Gateshead Council is now urging others to get their applications in before the next deadline on 6 October. Community ,voluntary groups or social enterprises can apply for up to £15,000 in Gateshead Council grants.

In addition to providing support to groups and clubs the grants scheme also offers help to individual Gateshead sports people who compete and represent their clubs at an advanced level.

Grants are open to all community groups, although priority is given to those working towards key council priorities such as promoting healthy lifestyles, working with younger/ older people, arts and cultural organisations, social support and care, economic development or sports and leisure.

Running costs will be funded up to 50 percent, to a maximum of £15,000 and equipment or event costs can also be funded up to 50 percent to a maximum of £1,000. One-off events can likewise be funded up to a maximum of £1,000.

If any local groups need a helping hand, they can call for the application pack on 0191 433 2811, email the grants and awards team at grantsandawards@gateshead.gov.uk or download information from www.gateshead.gov.uk/grantsandawards.

The deadline is Monday 6 October and a decision on support will be made before the end of December.
