Around 700 students from Gateshead schools collected their A-Level grades on Thursday 19th of august, and many schools have reported their best results ever.
Gateshead Council’s provisional pass rate for A Levels:

Provisional figures show that at least 99 percent of all borough pupils who collected their exam results passed, gaining vital qualifications to help them in their future careers.
Councillor Catherine Donovan, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Gateshead Council said: "Although the figures we have are still tentative, early indications suggest yet another outstanding year for Gateshead schools.
"This success is testament to the dedication of the A Level candidates' themselves, who have put in two years of hard work, as well as the quality teaching and support they have received from school staff.
"Post-16 education choices in Gateshead are more varied than ever and provide a crucial springboard for young people moving into their chosen fields.
“In these times of decreasing numbers of university places competition is fiercer than ever, so I’m delighted that Gateshead students are rising to the challenge.
“I’m sure we will be hearing about the future career success of this years A level students for many years to come.
"Well done to each and every individual."
The headteachers said:
Whickham Comprehensive School – pass rate 99.3%
Heworth Grange Comprehensive School – pass rate 100%
Chris Richardson, head teacher of Heworth Grange Comprehensive said: “We’re very pleased with our pass rate and we’re particularly pleased that our percentage of A star to B grade passes has gone up too. Early indications are that virtually everyone has achieved the grades they needed to take up the offers made by universities.”
Hookergate School – pass rate 100%
Kingsmeadow – pass rate 97 %
Head teacher Barbara Rouse said: “At Kingsmeadow we are delighted by the strong performance of our students. The year on year improvement in the overall pass rate has continued and risen to 97% this year with further improvement in % of students achieving at all higher grades. We are particularly pleased that students of all abilities have performed extremely well in vocational as well as traditional A levels. Congratulations to all students, staff and parents involved in such pleasing outcomes.”
Ryton Comprehensive School – pass rate 100%
Headteacher of Ryton Comprehensive Steve Williamson said: “We’re pleased the hard work put in by both students and staff has led to such success for people this year. As ever it is not the headline figures that matter but the individual stories behind them.”
Joseph Swan School – pass rate 100%
Cardinal Hume School – pass rate 100%
Headteacher Nick Hurn said, “We are extremely pleased that both A-level and vocational results have improved with some exceptional performances at all ability levels.”
St Thomas More Catholic School – pass rate tbc
Lord Lawson of Beamish Community School – 97%
Headteacher, David Grigg, said, “I am delighted that so many students have done so well. Many of them are going off to study at top universities. I would like to congratulate them, and the very talented Lord Lawson staff, for producing another outstanding performance at A level.”
