Jim McIntyre has been appointed as chief executive of the CDC
A leading figure in the field of urban regeneration and economic development has been appointed as chief executive of the new City Development Company for Gateshead and Newcastle.
Jim McIntyre (48) joins the CDC after four years at the helm of Gladedale Capital, the commercial and mixed-use development arm of one of the UK's biggest property development and housebuilding companies. He has recently completed the first three phases of the company's £500m Quartermile scheme in Edinburgh as well as major projects in Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Before joining Gladedale, Jim was a Director of the economic development agency Scottish Enterprise where he headed the network's strategic property and regeneration agenda. His major projects included the regeneration of the Clyde Corridor and the Clyde Gateway. He was also responsible for a number of flagship developments in Edinburgh including the Exchange - the one million sq ft financial and conference district in the city centre and the creation of Waterfront Edinburgh Ltd., the company responsible for the regeneration of the city's waterfront.

Speaking about the appointment City Development Company chair Charlie Falconer commented: "This is excellent news for Gateshead and Newcastle. In the private
sector and in the public sector Jim has proved consistently he can deliver. We have secured as our Chief executive a heavy hitter who will make things happen. It is a critical building block for the development Company.

"I am looking forward to working with Jim to finalise the structure of the City Development Company so that we can make swift progress to win new business for the area and encourage growth for existing companies in these challenging times."

The appointment was also welcomed by the founding partners who have established the CDC - Gateshead Council, Newcastle City Council and One NorthEast. The Council Leaders, Councillor Mick Henry of Gateshead and Councillor John Shipley of Newcastle, and One NorthEast's Chairman Margaret Fay described it as a great coup for the area which would be vital in attracting new investment.

Born in Glasgow, Jim McIntyre is married with two daughters. He is expected to take up his post in early November.
