Celebration of foster carers

Date: 15/05/2008

Gateshead Council is urging people to make a real difference to a child's life by becoming a foster carer.
The council is hosting a fostering information event for anyone wishing to find out more about becoming a carer. The event is being held on Thursday 22 May at the Civic Centre, from 7pm.

During the information event people will have the opportunity to talk to members of the fostering team and there will be a short presentation on the whole fostering process. Guests will also be able to find out more about the different types of fostering on offer, such as short term and long term care.

At present the council has a number of children in need of a kind and loving family, including older children, sibling groups and children with disabilities.

Christine Pearce, Fostering Manager at Gateshead Council, said:

"The information event is an excellent way of promoting the many benefits of fostering a child and for people to get a better understanding of the different types of foster care available."
