Award winning Gateshead Council carer Margaret Carr celebrates her success with Mrs Margaret Armstrong, one of several people who have given glowing reports of her caring abilities.
A Gateshead Council carer has been handed a prestigious national award after being described as ‘the best thing since sliced bread’ by one of the people she cares for.
After 18 years of bringing the ‘light into the life’ of vulnerable people in Gateshead, Margaret Carr has been given a prestigious national award for her work.
Already a winner at regional level, Margaret was runner up at the national Ceretas Home Care Awards Gala Ceremony in London last week, much to the delight of her colleagues and the people she cares for. Ceretas is the national body which promotes professional care at home.
Margaret joined Gateshead Council as a domiciliary care worker in 1990 when duties mainly consisted of helping with domestic chores such as shopping and cleaning. Now much more emphasis is put on providing personal care, an area where Margaret has really flourished.
Over the years there has been no end of praise for Margaret’s work from the people she has cared for. She was described by one person she frequently cares for as ‘the best thing since sliced bread’ and another described how Margaret ‘brought a certain light into her life often making her feel on top of the world by the time she left, often over her allocated time.’
Gateshead Council cabinet member for adult social care and health Cllr Peter Mole MBE said: “Margaret obviously has a very special talent for working with the most vulnerable people in society and providing really first class care and she deserves all the credit and the congratulations in the world for it.
“Whilst I’m sure that Margaret will be very proud of the award, I’m also sure that she will take even more pride in the knowledge that she makes such a huge difference to the lives of the people she cares for. I know everyone at Gateshead Council are very proud of Margaret and value the work that she does.”
