Candidates nominated for by-election in Gateshead

Nominations for the Whickham South and Sunniside by-election closed at noon today (4 July 2008), three candidates are standing.
Elaine Dobson – LABOUR, John McClurey – LIBERAL DEMOCRAT, and John Robertson – CONSERVATIVE will be contesting the by-election, which will take place on Thursday 31 July.

The by-election is taking place following the death of previous ward councillor Alan Ord.

Poll cards will be arriving in Whickham South and Sunniside homes from 5 July. The deadline for residents to be included on the electoral register, and to register for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 16 July. Voters who prefer to vote in person on the day will be able to do so at one of the polling stations, which will be open from 7am to 10pm.
