The Adult Learning and Skills Roadshow, featuring a Nintendo Wii championship, live music, refreshments, team building events, demonstrations and multi-media learning experiences, has toured venues across the borough this summer.
So far, around 700 people of all ages have pledged to enrol on a diverse number of courses, with one event still to be held, and all prospective learners have been entered into a free prize draw to win a Nintendo Wii games console.
Councillor Catherine Donovan, Cabinet member for children and young people at Gateshead Council said: “This roadshow offered local people a fantastic chance to gain essential transferable skills in an enjoyable way, while utilising the latest technology, and I’m delighted it has been so popular.”
Gateshead Council has 556 courses on offer ranging from vocational programmes and employability skills to wine tasting and ECDL. Courses which proved popular at the event have included City and Guilds 7307 teaching, digital photography and Skills for Life courses.
Programmes are offered across Gateshead and classes are held at flexible times to ensure everyone has the opportunity to enhance their skills.
The courses are also part of Gateshead Council’s Skills Pledge, its commitment to supporting its employees and residents develop their literacy and numeracy skills by enabling them to gain a full Level 2 vocational qualification.
