Here are some simple suggestions for looking after your home during winter weather:

  • Check that pipes are adequately lagged (tips for avoiding frozen/burst pipes).
  • Check that you have ordered your winter heating fuel.
  • Check that you know where your stoptap is located.
  • Find out if you are entitled to help with heating your home. 

Gateshead Housing Company Repairs

Customers are asked to only report genuine emergency repairs for their homes in periods of bad weather – like those we experienced last year.

Emergency repairs to heating, gas, electrics and plumbing, will still be carried out during severe weather but it may take longer for the repairs employees to reach houses. The aim is always to help as many customers as possible but in this situation repairs for older and vulnerable residents will be prioritised.

Report genuine emergencies by calling HomeRepairs on 0800 408 6008 (24 hours a day).

Other non-emergency repairs can be reported online  |or to a housing office.

Traffic Cameras

Residents and visitors to Gateshead can now access traffic cameras across Tyne and Wear. These cameras show regular images of traffic and weather conditions and may help to plan your journey
