Council News Summer 2017Summer 2017

Welcome to the Summer issue of Council News.

As the days get warmer and schools break up for the long summer break, we update you on some great events to keep you - and your children happy.

From our 28-day Q Festival on Baltic Square organised in partnership with Jesterval, to the GemArts Festival, local summer fairs and Gateshead’s first Clip ‘n Climb leisure attraction at Gateshead Leisure Centre, this summer is bursting with activities and new events. We reveal the winners of our annual Gateshead Awards as well as the latest local heroes to be given a plaque on the Quayside as part of our Walk of Fame.

June is also Volunteers’ month – we look back at the success of last year’s event and hope to inspire you with a local volunteer’s story.

Two footballing legends feature in this issue too.

Keen fisherman Jackie Charlton met up with our award winning angling club, ‘Angling 4 All’, and Kevin Keegan was in full voice with some of our Special Olympians!

All this plus how to get the most out of your local library when it comes to all things digital, advice on how to start saving with a credit union, and how two wheels are better than four as we urge more of you to get on our bike and enjoy a summer of cycling.
