As you will be aware swine flu is spreading rapidly throughout the UK. Below are a number of questions and answers which might help to clarify some of your questions about swine flu. This information is current as at 5th February 2010.

Symptoms & Illness:

  1. What should I expect to happen with my symptoms within a week-long period?
  2. If I caught swine flu, how long would it be before I showed any symptoms?
  3. What should I do if after five days I’m still not feeling well? Should I go and see my GP or go to A&E?
  4. Who is most ‘at risk’ of swine flu?
  5. How does swine flu cause death? Can you catch the disease twice?

Gateshead Council is working with partners to ensure we are prepared in the event of Influenza A(H1N1) becoming a major health issue in the borough.

Gateshead Council has reviewed and updated its arrangements. In the event of an outbreak it is confident that, working with partner organisations, plans are in place to deal with an outbreak.
