Budget consultation

Help us decide what services we provide in the future

We have £70m less to spend in the next three year period. That is equivalent to £88 less per peron, every year for all 192,000 people who live in the borough.

Major efficiencies have already been made – reducing costs, reducing management and reducing the number of buildings we use.

Detailed spending proposals have been drawn up based on what residents had already told us they saw as the most important core services. Cabinet agreed to detailed consultations on these proposals at their meeting on 29 November 2011|.

We've also looked at the basic services every household still needs and will make sure we can deliver these - even if the way they are delivered changes to save money.

Consultation

Consultation on the budget proposals closed on 13 January 2012. All views submitted will be considered as part of the final budget decision at Cabinet on 28 February 2012 and a meeting of the full council on 1 March 2012.

Spending Proposals

Every spending proposal has been reviewed and a Comprehensive Impact Assessements (CIA) developed for each one. This helps make sure our services meet the needs of our customers, and that no groups are excluded, overlooked or discriminated against by how we provide them.

The proposals have also been looked at together to check if certain groups are impacted by more than one proposal and therefore disproportionately impacted upon overall.

As far as possible the CIA’s look to eliminate or minimise any negative consequences of the proposals.

The CIA's will be updated to include the results of the consultation on the spending proposals (which closed on 13 January 2012). A final version of the CIA's will be published alongside the budget report to Cabinet on 28 February 2012. Should you wish to comment on the CIAs before then, you can do so by emailing BudgetConsultation@gateshead.gov.uk| quoting the document reference number (found at the begining of the document title).
