Best Value Performance Indicator
The Best Value Performance Indicator ( BVPI ) General survey is one of five statutory surveys conducted every three years on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government ( DCLG ). The other four are:
-
Tenants;
-
Benefits surveys;
-
Libraries;
-
Planning.
The aim of the survey is to measure the public’s satisfaction with the council and to collect a number of best value performance indicators.
The last surveys were carried out in 2006/07. The next surveys will be carried out in 2009/10.
Who is surveyed?
The methods used to carry out the survey are subject to strict controls and monitored by the ODPM . This ensures that data can be compared nationally. Surveys are sent through the post to a sample of 5,000 households chosen at random from across the borough.
Who carries out the survey?
The interviews are completed on behalf of Gateshead Council by an independent market research organisation.
How do we use the results?
The results are submitted back to the for comparison nationally with other authorities and to be used in the Comprehensive Performance Assessment.
The Council also uses the findings to inform decision-making and assist service improvement.
The Council gratefully acknowledges the help and assistance given by the many residents who took part in the surveys.
