Education working with schools
As part of the prevention aspect of the project, schools in the Tyneside area have benefited from interesting and inter-active educational programmes about the river. Designed to give students an awareness of the history and environmental issues associated with the river, the programmes are suitable for all age groups from 5 to 18 plus.
Clean Tyne Project members have regularly visited schools to engage the students in topical debate and instruction about issues affecting the river including pollution, industrial heritage, nautical skills and the running of the project.
In addition, field trips have been arranged to view industrial sites along the river and visits to the headquarters of the Maritime Volunteer Service (MVS)|
