Local Involvement Networks (LINks) are made up of individuals and community groups, such as faith groups and residents' associations, working together to improve health and social care services. The job of the LINk is to find out what people like and dislike about local services and work with people who plan and run them to help make them better.
LINks were started in April 2008 to give residents and communities a strong voice in shaping how their health and social care services are provided. LINks can find out what people want, monitor local services and use LINks powers to hold health and social care providers to account.
There is a LINk in every local authority area. Funding was given to each local authority to pay a Host organisation to setup and provide practical support to the LINk. The LINk is independent from the local authority and decides the work it does. To help LINks a range of advice and guidance has been made available. Find more information on the advice and guides|.
Gateshead LINk is Hosted by Gateshead Voluntary Organisations Council (GVOC). It has been set up in a way that allows individuals and groups to decide for themselves how they are involved and how much time they give to it.
If you are an individual, group, organisation or service that would like to know more about the LINk, or how you/your work can influence the LINk please contact them directly.
