Health Walks Gateshead

Health Walk
A health walk in Gateshead

This series of walks, all approximately 2 miles long, provide an opportunity for you to improve your health straight from your doorstep.

Easy to access and incorporating many of your local facilities, they can become part of your everyday routine

Why Walk?

Being physically active is very important. Just 30 minutes of moderate activity a day, such as brisk walking, can bring a whole range of health benefits - plus:

  • It's Free;
  • Almost everyone can do it;
  • You can do it on your own or with friends;
  • You can do it anytime;
  • You don't need any special equipment;
  • There is very little risk of injury;
  • You can do it at your own pace;

so take those first steps, but remember 'brisk' walking means walking so that you:

  • Breathe a little faster;
  • Feel a little warmer;
  • Have a slightly faster heartbeat.

It doesn't need to be hard work and you should still beable to talk

Start Slowly and Build Up Gradually

The 2 mile walks take longer than 30 minutes to complete, but as your fitness level goes up, the time it takes you will go down.

You can get the Health Walks packs from your local library, community centre, doctors or council offices. Please remember to fill in our simple questionnaire when you pick up a pack.
