1. I am going away on holiday and need someone to look after my relative is there any help available?
Yes, help is available, we can arrange domiciliary care to assist your relative at home until you return or arrange a respite stay in a residential home if appropriate. An assessment will need to be undertaken to establish a way forward.

2. Can I have a carers assessment even if the person I care for doesn’t receive services from CBS.
Yes – carers can have an assessment in their own right even when the person they care for declines an assessment. This assessment if free.

3. Where I have a carers assessment how much help can I expect.
The assessment will identify your needs and how high the risk is of loosing your independence . A care plan will detail your needs and how these will be met. Using this information assessing workers will use eligibility bands that will reflect how much support you need.

4. What is a carers assessment?
The Carers Act 1995 gives carers rights in law, meaning as a carer you can request an assessment of your own needs and abilities when an assessment of the person you care for is being carried out.

6. Who is classed as a carer
You a carer if you provide substantial un-paid help to someone who is frail disabled, has mental health difficulties or physical ill health and wouldn’t manage without your support. You may not live in the same house and you do not have to be related to the person who you care for.
