1. Can I get assistance from the Council about benefits I may be entitled to? 

Yes, the Council has Welfare Rights workers who can visit you as well as holding Surgeries in some areas where you can visit, their role is to offer advice and maximise your benefits.  Please be aware Welfare Rights workers do not deal with appeals, you would be better off contacting Gateshead Advice Centre|. Other organisations which can help with benefits advice are Department of Work and Pensions|, Age UK|Gateshead Advice Centre| Tel: 08448487990

2. What is Attendance Allowance?

Attendance allowance is a benefit which people with a disability can apply for it is not related to income and is meant to assist people and their carers with their personal care needs. To download and application form and acquire additional information please visit the DWP web site|.
